This first wave of Spring Breakers put out guides to work! We had 29 trips run this past week, and we fished in just about every weather condition you could imagine. The winds and temperatures changed daily and it kept us on our toes. Earlier in the week we had a stout north wind, mid week near freezing temperatures, and by the weekend it was back in the 70's and blowing outta the south.
To say we put some miles on the Sport Trail trailers is an understatement. I think we had boats launch at just about every boat launch in Hancock and Harrison County. With the changing winds and low water(north winds) you had to move around to stay in the calmer water. It was all worth it, and the crews got treated to fantastic Spring Break Fishing.
ALL the trips were run in MS Waters. Our crews either wanted shorter easier trips, the weather prevented a LA Marsh trip, and the fishing was Awesome! Whole lotta youngsters on the boats these weeks. We even fished a Hollywood starlet earlier in the week. Miss Stella Allen(Deep Water Horizon, Free State of Jones, AMC's Preacher) joined us for a trip in the Bay. The big trip this week was the 8 boat trip from Allpaxs via the Hollywood Casino. We had to call in a few favors from Captains Brian, Joey and John to fill in. They did a great job. Truth be told, I think the Garriga boys swept the money categories in the mini rode we had. Capt Brians boat had the most fish, and Capt Joeys boat won for the biggest fish, it was big fat fresh water cat fish the caught in the Jourdan River. Capt Joey also took home top honors for keeper red fish with most spots.
The sheepshead, black drum, slot reds, flounder, and trout helped us put smiles on the faces of these Spring Breakers. Honestly, the conditions were not the best we have been in, but being able to move around and play the wind, completely saved our week. Capt Matts boat has had the hot hand with big sea monster black drum this week. For what ever reason, he has been the only boat able to stay on these big critters. Hands down, Capt Kennys boat has been on a tear with these huge sheepshead. All the boats have been working on them, but Kenny and his crews have been putting on a show. Capt Alex put up the best numbers of keeper trout this past week. Even in close, he has been putting his crews on a decent number of keeper(15 inch and up) specks.
The pictures and the smiles will have to tell the rest of the story, it is just too much to recount. Every thing this week came off of either live or dead shrimp. We all fished the same areas(BSL, the reefs, the rivers, and the reefs), depending on the winds and seas. Some of the guides prefer dropper loops, Carolina rigs, bare jig heads, or under the Boat Monkey popping corks in low water. It all seemed to work. We are looking forward to our next wave of Spring Breakers. A lot of these trips were booked the night before. We can do last minute, but we always appreciate a little notice. Give us a shout if we can get yall on the water, Kiddos are not only very welcome, but they fish for FREE!!! Thnaks
