Got the beans soaking and the ham cut and cubed. Will have everything cooking in a few hours. Since I don't bow hunt, this is my way of celebrating the opening of bow season and the first day of my favorite month.

Yea what the heck is a northern bean. Is that the same as dried lima beans?

Maybe Navy or pinto beans. Never looked on the package, my wife does the cooking.

...What do you call them?

IDK, because IDK what they are.  I've never had (that I know of) "northern beans".

Red beans, yes.  White beans, yes.  Baked beans, yes. Butterbeans, yes.  Northern beans?  No idea.

Northern are white and looks more like a pork-n-bean. These are my favorite.

Navy and Pinto are a close second.

Many a day I have sat around a campfire eating Northern beans and ham out of a Styrofoam cup. Dash of salt, lots of black pepper and a couple of bumps of Tabasco sauce and you are good to go.

To me, when dried in the bag, they look a lot like a baby lima bean.  After soaking, they appear to be slimmer and longer than a baby lima.  I bought them cause they were on sale .......... haha.
