Today, I voted to allow debate on gun legislation. I have an A+ rating from the NRA and have consistently worked to protect Second Amendment rights. My vote is in accord with the NRA’s position. I have never voted for gun control and will not do so. This begins a debate to put the Senate on record about a basic constitutional freedom. Bringing this bill to the floor gives us the opportunity to vote on measures to strengthen gun rights, such as an amendment to protect veterans from unfair restrictions when trying to purchase a firearm. I will filibuster passage of a final bill if it contains gun restrictions or a weapons ban.

BigO, Roger Wicker is a senator from MS.  If we could get his congressional email address, we could send him (appropriate) emails of us NOT wanting anything else to do with NIBC's gun-control legislation, etc.

Oh, he must be a new one.  I have not heard his name before.

He took over Trent Lott's seat when he retired a few years ago. But he has been a congressman for N. Miss. for a number of years 10 to 15 as I recall.

I think now he is rethinking his position saying he will vote Nay and would fillibuster against gun control.  We shall see now.  I just wonder how the hell they enticed him to sell out in the first place.  He should have voted no.  They are going to tack some amendments onto this thing that is going to force them to pass it.  If the nays would have prevailed it would be about over except for the crying.

If you notice in RT8's post above in the last line there Wicker says he will filibuster the bill if there are any bans or restrictions. This today was just preliminary....people are making more out of this vote today than needs be. No need for panic.

No need for panic? no panic, just resignation.  They had the votes last week to sideline this crap and let it die.  Most thought it was dead.  Now it is suddenly revived after some white house tours.  What reason would they have for reviving this POS legislation if they are not going to try and slide it through in some form.  What kind of lame excuse is oh we just voted for it to debate the issue.  There was no reason to debate anything just let it die with a whimper and maintain the status quo.  Promises were made, but we all know how politicians keep promises.  No telling what is going to be tacked to this bill making it more than attractive enough to a few republicans to make them swap sides.
